2008 Angels Christmas Card ReportAngels Christmas Card is Put to Good UseThe people of the Bayou, all of whom we know through Bayou Grace Community Services in Chauvin, Louisiana, are extremely grateful for all of the help along the way with our HOPE Team efforts and Katrina Christmas Card / Greetings in Christ funds.Proceeds from our 2008 card sale purchased the materials for finishing a home for a family that had been displaced from their home and living in a trailer since Hurricane Ike hit in September, 2008. This meant simple but necessary items for our HOPE Teams 19 to work on during their March 2009 trip, such as light switch and socket plates, woodwork, curtains, etc... The Angels Christmas Card, being a photo of the St. John's sanctuary, was generally of interest only to our own members. However, the Northern Illlinois District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod honored our members and the late Rev. David Smith by using this card as their official Christmas card for 2008. Cards are finding innovative uses at St. John's. Sets of 3 cards/envelopes were given to visitors at the 2008 St. John's Christmas Concert. Cards are serving a new purpose of outreach with St. John's Board of Evangelism. A good number of cards were given to Bayou Grace to hand out or to sell to locals and volunteers. 2008 was a busy year as St. John's greeting card ministry took on a new name, Greetings in Christ, with its own web site, greetingsinchrist.org. New card designs were added in 2008, A Rose Christmas Card and the Floral Note Cards, extending our offerings to a wider customer base. All cards did their part in raising over $2,500, with a solid inventory for our new Greetings in Christ web site to sell online. $5 per package benefits Bayou Grace until expenses are paid, per individual card design; all profit thereafter goes to Bayou Grace. St. John's does not in anyway,from these card sales. Greetings in Christ is a ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church for the sole purpose of generating funds for disaster renewal, rebuilding and recovery. |
