2006 Nativity Christmas Card ReportPastor Bill Geis set up a website for St. John's new Christmas card, known as the Katrina Christmas Card. Church secretary Julaine took charge of publicity and handling for all orders with great enthusiasm. Having made trips with HOPE Teams herself, her love for the people of the Gulf Coast was and still is contagious! This is our motivation, reaching out to our brothers and sisters in need.Never having ventured into Christmas Card production and sales before, the efforts of all involved at St. John's were surprisingly fruitful. All card-related expenses were paid with the sale of 2,000 cards in August, 2006. By Christmas, approximately 8,000 cards were sold, generating over $5,000. The project with simple beginnings was richly blessed, for the benefit of dear friends on the Louisiana Bayous. The Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod used St. John's new Katrina Christmas Card as their official Christmas Card for 2006. Lutheran Church Charities helped to promote the card with sales at its Word Among Us classes and with links on its web site, LutheranChurchCharities.org. The Doings Newspaper of La Grange, Illinois wrote a lovely article on the card in its August 31,2006 publication as the first anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita drew near. Titled "Church holiday card aids hurricane relief" by Ken Knutson, Staff Writer, the article included a full lenght half page photo of the card. The article can be accessed, unfortunately for a fee, at the Archives of The Doings, LaGrange, Illinois.
